The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) said it approved the new charges against the former Metropolitan Police officer after evidence was referred by his former employer in London. He is serving a life sentence for the abduction, rape and murder of the 33-year-old marketing executive in March 2021 while he was working at the Met. The two alleged flashing offenses are said to have taken place in the Dover area of Kent in June 2015 and in the Deal area of the county in November 2020, according to Scotland Yard. Couzens, 49, is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on September 2. “The function of the CPS is not to decide whether a person is guilty of a criminal offence, but to make fair, independent and objective assessments of whether it is appropriate to bring charges before a court to consider,” said the head of CPS Special. Crime Division, Rosemary Ainslie. Couzens has already appeared in court charged with four other incidents of alleged exposure said to have taken place in Swanley, Kent, before Ms Everard’s death. They allegedly took place on four occasions: between January 22 and February 1, 2021, January 30 and February 6, and on February 14 and February 27.
