Photo: Colin Dacre Police are warning the public after “several” cases of people being drugged and robbed while hiring escorts across the Lower Mainland. Surrey RCMP say they have become aware of people hiring an escort online, meeting at a prearranged location and then getting drugged. When they wake up, they find their valuables have been stolen. “These incidents are alarming as they pose a high risk to the health and safety of those who are drugged with unknown substances,” says Cpl. Vanessa Munn, media relations officer at Surrey RCMP, in a statement. Police believe there may be additional victims who are reluctant to make a police report. “If you have taken drugs, it is highly recommended that you seek medical attention immediately,” he says. Those who encounter “unknown” people should take precautions, according to police. This includes:

keeping track of any food or drink you consume to ensure it hasn’t been spiked do not consume anything the other person has given you not using drugs or alcohol that may impair your ability to keep yourself safe

The public is also reminded to inform a trusted person of their whereabouts in case they do not check in.

Anyone who believes something similar has happened to them should contact their local police. According to Canada’s Bill C-36, buying sexual services and contacting any place for that purpose is illegal.
