The body of grandmother Dawn Walker, 52, was found four days after she married Thomas Nutt on October 27 last year. Nutt, 46, was convicted of murder earlier this month and was sentenced at Bradford Crown Court on Friday. Image: Nat was captured moving the suitcase. Photo: West Yorkshire Police After killing Mrs Walker, Nutt kept her body in a cupboard before putting it in a suitcase and dumping it in bushes behind their home in Lightcliffe near Halifax, West Yorkshire, the court heard. An examination of Mrs Walker’s body showed that she had suffered significant neck injuries, suggesting that “brutal pressure had been applied to her neck”. Natt did not give evidence at his trial, admitting manslaughter on the basis that he “did not intend” to cause his new wife serious harm. Image: Nutt claimed that Dawn Walker had disappeared Natt called the police on October 31, claiming that his wife had disappeared that morning from their home and appeared to be making inquiries. But prosecutor Alistair MacDonald QC said Nutt “knew full well that her body was in a cupboard in the matrimonial home” and accused Nutt of carrying out a “gruesome charade”. Jurors were shown CCTV footage of Natt rolling a large suitcase out the back of the house and into nearby bushes as officers arrived at his front door to follow up on a missing person’s report. He then handed himself into a police station, telling officers: ‘We turned around and he’s got bipolar and he’s depressed, he said he wanted a divorce. “She put me in jail before, she said I had tried to rush her and assault her. “She said she was going to do it again. She started screaming and I hit her in the face and put my arm around her neck.” However, the prosecution claimed Nutt went to Skegness alone and had in fact killed his wife on their wedding night – or the day after – and left her body at home.
