The Biden administration is reportedly poised to send another $800 million to Ukraine as part of a security and military aid package that could be announced as early as Friday amid concerns about a possible attack on a nuclear facility in the country.
President Joe Biden could approve the funds through the Presidential Withdrawal Authority, a presidential ability to redistribute defense articles from the Defense Department to foreign countries in times of crisis, which Biden has used in the past to help Ukraine, he said. Reuters.
The total for the aid package could change before it is finalized, according to Reuters, citing “three sources familiar with the matter”.
The funds come as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy warned in a tweet on Thursday that “the world is on the brink of nuclear destruction”.

“How long will it take the world community to respond to Russia’s irresponsible actions and nuclear blackmail?” Zelenskyy asked, referring to a possible attack on the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, Europe’s largest nuclear power plant.
Rebekah Koffler, an independent consultant and intelligence expert on Russian affairs, told Fox News Digital that Russia “is likely” planning an attack or using the threat of an attack as a distraction.
“It is likely that Russia is either preparing to make a provocation to cause a nuclear incident, trying to cover up something that has already happened, or is just stirring to cause confusion and distraction in front of the UN Secretary General. visit,” Kofler said.
Agence France-Presse (AFP) reported that Ukraine is conducting nuclear defense exercises “to prepare for all scenarios” regarding the nuclear plant.
Russia’s RT news agency reported that Russia was also preparing for an attack, claiming that Ukrainian forces could fire on the nuclear plant and blame them for the disaster.

Biden has used the Presidential Withdrawal Authority at least 18 times to help Ukraine – totaling more than $7.2 billion in defense equipment and services – since August 2021, to help bolster Ukraine’s defenses against invasion of Russia.
“Through this process, the United States is providing Ukraine with vital military assistance to defend itself against Russia’s unprovoked and brutal aggression, which amounts to internationally condemned war crimes,” the State Department said in a press release last month.
The aid does not need congressional approval and could be sent within days or hours after Biden approves the action, the State Department previously said.
