THE CANADIAN PRESS/Chad Ippolito The Opposition Liberals have removed MP John Rustad from the party’s caucus after he tweeted comments questioning the role of carbon dioxide in climate change. Party leader Kevin Falcon says in a statement that Rustad, who represents Nechako Lakes in central BC, has been removed for what he says is a “pattern of behavior” that does not support the caucus. Rustad shared a tweet on Sunday from Patrick Moore, director of the CO2 Coalition, in which he said the premise that carbon dioxide is the climate “control knob” is “weakening every day” and included the hashtag “Celebrate CO2 “. Rustad could not immediately be reached for comment. Falcon said in a statement that while the party encourages a diversity of perspectives, these must exist on a foundation of mutual respect and trust, which Rustad had breached. On Wednesday, Falcon tweeted that the party was “strongly committed to meaningful climate action” and wanted BC to be a world leader on climate policy.
