The US has been forced to withdraw warplanes and attack helicopters in Crimea after strikes on military installations on the peninsula, Kyiv claimed today. About 24 fighters and bombers, along with 14 helicopters, have been moved deeper into the Black Sea peninsula or mainland Russia, according to Ukraine’s Defense Ministry. The retreat follows recent explosions at Russian military bases in Crimea, for which Ukraine has claimed responsibility. “The occupiers are carrying out measures to partially transfer aviation equipment from airfields in Crimea to reserve airfields and airfields permanently located on the territory of the Russian Federation,” Ukrainian military intelligence said. “Such activity occurred after a series of explosions at military infrastructure facilities in the temporarily occupied Crimean peninsula, including Saki and Gvardiyske airfields.”
