Heavy Rain Risk Of Thunderstorms On The Way For Much Of The Island

Some wet and stormy weather on its way for much of Newfoundland. A special weather statement is in place for many areas including the Connaigre Peninsula, Burin and Avalon today as thunderstorms and significant rainfall are expected to hit the area. Widespread rainfall is more likely to reach 15 to 25 mm, with 45 mm in the heaviest. Gander Weather Bureau meteorologist Dale Foote says a deep, moist, unstable air mass is moving across the Maritimes and the island, with the potential to push the upper boundary. It says the air mass could be more than 45mm so precipitation warnings are in place. He says there’s still a lot of uncertainty about where the showers and storms will line up.
