Sam Felstead, 42, was asleep at 4.30am. when the seven-year-old cat Billy would pound his paws on her chest and meow to wake her up. The outrageous behavior came as Sam suffered a heart attack – but she didn’t realize it straight away. The Nottinghamshire receptionist realized she couldn’t move her body and had a pain on her right side, so she called her mum Karen for help. They were told they would have to wait two hours for an ambulance to arrive at their home in Stapleford, The couple was rushed to the hospital in the early hours of August 8. There the doctors explained what had happened – and Sam believes Billy’s quick actions saved her life. He doesn’t do it normally, he sleeps all day and all night, that’s his life. A cat behaviourist believes Billy may have been experiencing physiological changes in Sam (Image: SWNS) “He wouldn’t leave me. “It’s not a lap cat. He’s not a light cat either, and he’s definitely not a cat that wants to be on his knees all the time. He likes to be alone. “He never woke me up last night, he never bothers you. He doesn’t wake you up to eat.’ Sam added that the cat ‘loves’ mum Karen and ‘doesn’t mess with me’ “Mum was very shocked,” he continued. “He never woke me up last night, he never bothers you. He doesn’t wake you up to eat.’ (Image: SWNS) “I told her she woke me up and she was even more shocked. You don’t hear that about cats. “I’m glad you woke me up. Who knows if I would have got up without him, it could have been worse for me.’ Cat behavior expert Lucy Hoile said Billy, a British Shorthair, may have sensed the physiological changes in Sam. He said: “It could be that the fact that he was jumping on her and meowing was a sign of his stress. “I think it probably saved her life because it enabled her to get medical help, but I wouldn’t go down the road of saying she did it on purpose. Man ‘caught with crossbow’ at Windsor Castle says ‘I’m here to kill the Queen’ “He was the one reacting to the situation.” Sam said she was drenched in sweat and had a lot of back pain when she woke up, while her right side felt “really heavy and weird”. She could not stand properly and was very dizzy after getting out of bed. One of her arteries was blocked, according to doctors at Queen’s Medical Center, who believe she suffered a mild heart attack. “They looked after me so well (but) I have a lot of medication to take for life and I have to take it easy for six weeks,” she said.
